The Role: Head of Engineering

We're looking for a hands-on engineering leader to own and scale the infrastructure powering our AI agents. This is a player-coach role: you'll write code, architect systems, and build a high-performing team as we grow.

You'll inherit a strong foundation and a talented engineering team, with the mandate to scale both. You'll own our cloud infrastructure, ensure our AI agents run reliably at scale, and make the technical decisions that will define Swantide's next chapter.

You will

• Lead and grow a small but mighty engineering team, fostering a culture of ownership, speed, and craft
• Stay hands-on: architect, code, and review alongside your team. This isn't a meetings-only role
• Own our GCP/Kubernetes infrastructure, optimizing reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency as we grow
• Drive technical strategy for our AI platform, making smart trade-offs between speed and sustainability
• Partner with our CEO and sales and customer success leadership to ship features that solve real customer problems
• Build on our existing engineering practices that scale: CI/CD, observability, testing, incident response
• Recruit and develop exceptional engineers as we expand the team

You have

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 4 years leading or managing engineering teams
• Startup experience, you've built and scaled systems in fast-moving, resource-constrained environments
• A passion for cutting-edge AI: you follow the latest developments, understand what the best teams are doing with agents, and want to push boundaries
• Deep expertise in Python and cloud-native architectures
• Strong experience with GCP, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
• Hands-on experience with enterprise AI/LLM platforms and integrating multiple model providers
• Proven ability to balance technical depth with people leadership—you can debug a production issue and coach an engineer through a tough problem in the same afternoon
• A bias for action and comfort with ambiguity

Nice to have but not necessary

• Experience building and deploying AI agents in production
• Familiarity with our stack: FastAPI, Prefect, MongoDB, Postgres, vector databases
• Background in B2B SaaS or developer tools
• Exposure to Salesforce or CRM ecosystems
• Experience scaling a team from small to mid-size (5 → 20+)
